Around these parts we all(well most of us) love the Singer and ICON cars. They take amazing classics and massage them into modern masterpieces. The fit and finish on them is just unseen on cars that are not technically one offs. ICON and Singer creates pieces of art that simply should not exist, they do not make sense. FJ’s with lengthened wheelbases, Broncos with bits from aircraft in them, and Porsches with reinvigorated souls. I have an idea for the far off future. My idea is one that I like to call Sleeper Cell Classics. The basic idea is to take obscure classics and massage them into cars that can be used on a daily basis.

Example 1:

The Dodge Omni

Kinja'd!!!

With this car I suggest installing a Pentastar V6 out of a Chrysler 200. I suggest this solely because the purist part of me comes out when I think of what engine should go in what. I really have not thought about the interiors too much to be honest but I wouldn’t want anything too high end, maybe up to Mercedes levels max.

Example 2:

Kinja'd!!!

With this example I am willing to stray away from my purist tastes mainly because it is technically a dead brand. I know that it’s brand was absorbed by Chrysler but I do not believe they have a good engine for this one. Who does have a proper engine for this car you may ask:

Kinja'd!!!

Ford and their 1 liter Ecoboost engine(Phot courtesy of our own Torch). It’s a brilliant small engine that has more than enough horsepower to make this car properly put along. The original Metropolitan engine put out around 42 horsepower whereas this engine, in its Fiesta form puts out around 123 horsepower. I wish I could go more in depth but I have things I must do now. Let’s continue this in the comments.

The engine out of a fast Kei car into a classic mini.

I’m laughing at the idea of an Omni being a classic! Although I still, I like the idea of doing one up.

It has to be in the spirit of Singer. I don’t believe a Mini fits into my idea mainly because I want them all to be very unsuspecting cars. I forgot to mention I want them to be cars that nobody really thinks of. That's where Sleeper Cell comes from.

Yes it is absolutely ridiculous. But it’s the kind of car nobody thinks of and would be fun to you with. The price tag that would accompany these would be at a point where only those that want to spice up their collections would buy them. It's crazy enough to work.

As someone who’s owned an Omni, I’ve always thought it’d be more fun to try and blow the thing up in 24 hours of lemons.

Icon needs to stop using the ugliest imaginable paint colors. Seriously.

This might sound a bit unheard of, but I always had this idea that a F1 engine swapped Minivan would be quite cool and unique.

Well if you do that and the body isn't destroyed I will buy the remains.

They aim for too far under the radar with their paint colors. I despise the matte black Broncos, I think they need to be forest green.

I’m a fan, it’s how I think cars should be modded. Factory specials.

Oh, that would definitely be a good one to do. I wonder if a modern VW diesel would fit.

It has to be the front. Mainly because the idea is all about random sleeper cars that are very unassuming.

They hit values where most repairs cost more than the car was worth fairly quickly. That being said, I’m sure a bunch of power in one would be fun, and people who’ve driven the glh variant seem to agree with that.

Along the same line of thought, if I had the bucks I would have Icon do a ‘94-’96 Roadmaster wagon.

Save for the next four or so years and Sleeper Cell Classics will be your go to place.

The best part about my idea is that the Pentastar that goes in the 200 has 100 more horsepower the the GLHS and it's far easier to find parts for now. Add to that the fact there are some Mopar performance parts that can be added.

Why stop at a V6 though?

Outside of the video description, I’ve unfortunately never been able to find out more about this car.

Also, a fun fact, the taillights and grill on this car are actually the ones from the Plymouth Horizon, making this car an imposter. But who cares, that was the only difference between the two.

I am tired of overdone hotrods and want to make things people can drive and have fun in. The best way to look at it is this: Carrol Shelby built horsepower monsters with 428s in them but what was his favorite Cobra? A 289 with an automatic because it was more manageable in every day situations. It's not always about power.

Or stock Toyota. That would be better.

That would be one way to go, however it seems many of the colors they use border Toyota colors. Except the Toyota ones are all glossy and nice.
